Mementos from near and far

Topping the GMA 7 talent search “Pinoy Pop Superstar” (PPS) in 2005 has changed her life in more ways than one, singing champ Jonalyn Viray confirms.

“I’ve not only met new friends, I’ve also gained new experiences,” she explains.

Her work now entails countless trips here and abroad.

Traveling is but one of the many perks of her job, she admits, and, in each stop, fans and friends constantly shower her with gifts—souvenirs from near and far.

As a result, her bedroom in the family’s Pasig townhouse is teeming with such mementos.

GOWNS

As one of the junior divas on the Sunday musical-variety show “SOP,” Jonalyn, who’s only 18, has accumulated a closet full of gowns.

Although she can’t find her winning outfit from PPS, she still keeps the gown she wore at the 2006 World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Hollywood.

Another special gown was a gift from idol and PPS host Regine Velasquez. “She gave it to me when I guested in her ‘Reflections’ concert,” Jonalyn recalls.

A unique present in her closet is a yellow kimono given by a Japanese fan who watched her concert with Ogie Alcasid in Tokyo.

CAPS

Jonalyn also collects caps and hats.

There’s a practical reason behind her passion for headgear.

“I always bring a cap when I go malling,” she notes. “It’s the perfect solution on a bad-hair day.”

Hats also allow her to shop, incognito, she concedes.

Since her PPS runner-up and fellow WCOPA champ Brenan Espartinez knows that she adores hats, he gifted her with a studded silver cap from Hong Kong.

SCENTS

While in a duty-free shop in Hawaii, fellow GMA 7 talent Jennylyn Mercado noticed that Jonalyn was going around in circles.

“Since I couldn’t find the perfume I wanted, Jennylyn gave me Eclat (D’arpege by Lanvin),” Jonalyn recounts. “It’s her favorite scent daw. She also gave me a sleeveless top from her boutique (Finds: Jen’s).”

Jonalyn admits that she has lots of fave scents, but she’s partial to Victoria’s Secret Garden and Paris Hilton’s Heiress perfume.

BELTS, SHOES

“There was a time when I collected belts,” she confesses.

Fortunately, she got over this obsession. “I bought this one because pink is my favorite color. I like the red belt because it looks elegant. I also love gold belts.”

Since stilettos are another job requirement, she keeps a Carrie-sized collection in her room.

Although there are imported pairs in the rack, she prefers the ballet shoes from Janilyn.

“It looks unusual,” she quips.

TOPS, JEANS

When shopping for clothes, she always makes comfort her priority.

“Style only comes in second,” she explains.

Her closet is filled with an assortment of styles: from tubes to turtlenecks.

When it comes to jeans, she prefers the skinny variety.

Problem is, petite Jonalyn can never find the right size in RTW racks. “Small shirts are still too big and I have to cut the jeans because they’re too long.”

Sometimes she ends up going to the kiddie section.

OTHER COLLECTIBLES

She has a prized collection of minus-one tapes, like Regine’s “R2K.” “I used to sing Ate Reg’s hits when I joined contests,” she recalls.

Speaking of which, she has a mantle filled with trophies in her room.

“I won my first contest at age 8. It was a barangay competition in San Mateo, Rizal, where I grew up,” she recounts.

The rewards of her job have taught her to share her blessings.

“When I returned from a show in Turkey, I gave my friends a [Nazar Boncuk] refrigerator magnet,” she relates. “They say it’s a lucky charm.”

Hiltons to Hawk Perfume on the Web

Paris Hilton never met a camera lens she didn’t like. But this time the lens isn’t for a reality television show, the paparazzi, or even a jail mugshot — it’s that of New York-based startup For Your Imagination, which is debuting a new, branded web series tomorrow featuring Paris, her mom Kathy and her sister, Nicky.

The six-part series A Day With the Hiltons will follow a mother-daughter duo that won an all expenses-paid trip to L.A. to spend the day with Paris, Kathy and Nicky “while they visit a salon, attend an intimate brunch and spend the afternoon shopping.” Not exactly my thing, but an interesting example of a new media distribution partnership nonetheless.

The idea and execution all took place over a period of several weeks. The people behind Kathy Hilton’s My Secret fragrance, friends of FYI CEO Paul Kontonis, came up with the idea for a contest, and Kontonis suggested a web series. FYI brought on TV Guide for digital distribution and was soon in L.A., shooting. “No one else was willing to handle it in a three-week turnaround,” Kontonis said of TV Guide in a phone interview. “It came down to the wire and we were very impressed.”

TV Guide Broadband, which delivered 8.7 million plays in March, has 30-day exclusive distribution rights for the web series, after which it will enter wider distribution. According to Kontonis, rather than a rev share, TV Guide paid an upfront fee for the rights. The series will be promoted tonight on Extra, which owns exclusive rights to video of the brunch; People has exclusive rights to the photos, which it will run in its May 18th issue. “It was interesting for us because we do distribution. We struck a deal with [TV Guide] because we knew we could get much higher traffic through them.”

TV Guide Broadband will syndicate the series through their existing partnerships with Hulu, YouTube, Veoh and other TV Guide Broadband affiliates with which they have existing advertising deals.

Hanging out with Paris has its moments. “The best thing about it was the pure insanity of the paparazzi once we hit the streets,” Kontonis said. But he also said he liked experimenting with what he called “the future of advertising.” As he put it :”It’s a series built for a brand, but it won’t feel like a brand.”

Paris’s perfume pass

05 9th, 2008 Author: Discount Perfume at Merwer.com

Paris Hilton is coming to London where she will meet her fans in person.
The hotel heiress - currently starring in a reality TV show in which she is looking for a new best friend - will sign autographs and give out goodie bags to purchasers of her new perfume Can Can at Selfridges on Thursday May 15.

But it seems meeting the blonde socialite is not going to be an easy task.

Paris fans must first buy a 100ml bottle of her new fragrance from Selfridges the day before her personal appearance (Wednesday May 14.)

They will queue for the scent and they will then be offered a special pass - of which there are a limited number - to be able to meet the party-loving star. The passes will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

The lucky Paris fans who secure a pass are then invited to come back again the next day and queue up again from 12.30pm to meet her. Paris will sign a personalised photograph and present fans with a complimentary goodie bag.
